Hooked On A Feeling

We apologize for our infrequent postings of late. We've been busy with a hectic work week, puppy duty and of course, the curse obsession that is Babble.

But today, a buddy emailed us something so wondrous, so profound, so genuinely stupefying that we had to drop everything and post it immediately. 

Naturally, it involves David Hasselhoff. [He's huge in Europe.] 

We'd argue that this video - which has been floating around in cyberspace for a while now -- is truly one of the wonders of the World Wide Web.

If this ain't art, we don't know what is.

Famous or Freaky?

A picture is worth a whole lot more than a thousand words once it's seen the magic that is Photoshop.

If you need proof, check out some of the latest entries for "Celebrity Sideshow" -- one of Worth 1000's many Photoshop contests which ususally involves mashing up incongruous images. In this case, it's Hollywood finding its inner beast.

Those who are unfamiliar with Worth 1000's site - and have the time to poke through the many contests - are in for a treat.   [via cityrag]

Beep Beep

Earlier today, the New York media went into a frenzy trying to get footage of the coyote loose in Central Park. News choppers clamoured, reporters scrambled and CNN interrupted whatever ratings-driven important news coverage for the "breaking news." 

Meanwhile, our official ACME Crystal Ball tells us that one very crafty, long-limbed bird masterminded this brilliant media stunt.    

And The Addiction Begins

Our long-standing penchant for crossword puzzles, Boogle and Scrabble is poised to blossom into a full-blown obssession now that we've happened onto Babble.

They post a new Babble board every 24 hours, and then let the games begin. Originally, we didn't think it'd be fun to compete against the rest of the Internet ... but it turned out that we were so very, very wrong!

We're registered as Scribblista, should anyone dare to want to take us on.

Our pup, Duncan, is 10-weeks old today.

He's a swell dog. And he's doubled in size in the short time that we've had him, but ... well, let's just say that he is not destined to become the neighborhood bad-ass. 
 
 

Yep, That's A Deal-Breaker

[Ed. Note: The following is the true story about how a promising new relationship can come to a crashing end.]    

Jane*: [Playfully] Do you always have to be so inscrutable?   

Dick*: [Playfully] Inscrutable? Is that one of those words you keep making up?

Jane: [Somewhat dumbfounded] Um, no. That's a real word. It means hard-to-understand or kind of mysterious. Look it up.

Dick: [After Googling inscrutable] Damn. It is a real word.

Jane: [Testing the waters] Did you think that I just invented a word?

Dick: [Utterly serious] Sure. You do it all the time. Like the other day, you made up the word **sardonic.

Not That Sperm-Covered Blue Dress

It seems there's another blue frock in someone's closet that's covered with sperm -- although this time, the sperm doesn't appear to be Presidential.
This vintage dress was a hot item on eBay last week by an online thrifter a reseller who bought a dress originally advertised as "polka-dotted."

On closer inspection, however, polka dots aren't what came to to mind. [Click on dress to see the "polka dots up close.]

The reseller -- who was thrilled with the sperm detail -- played it up and the dress fetched an impressive $250.

Considering all he publicity that The Gap got at the height of the Bill/Monica scandale, we'd like to see the chain store make a similar profit off of an inspired pattern.

After all, if Gap designers were to rework this concept into a line of fresh and flirty spring dresses, then every girl could have a sperm-covered dress tucked away somewhere in her closet.

A Rat By Any Other Name

Ripped from today's headlines: 

The AP today reported that the squirrel-rat, a species that some believed went extinct some 11 billion years ago, is actually alive and scampering around the jungles of Loas. 

This important discovery will be reported in an upcoming issue of the journal, Science.

Apparently, the brainiacs who came to this conclusion have never been to Central Park, where mutant, shifty-eyed, rat-like squirrels feast on salt pretzels and Hebrew Nationals, and regularly terrorize the timid, nature-phobic species, commonly known as New Yorkers.   

It's Hard Out There For A President

Thanks to the two-pound tyrant in our lives, it's been tough to follow all the happenings on the Hill.

So imagine our surprise today to wake up and learn about the GOP mutiny (Mutiny! How sweet the sound!!) taking place against Dubya. There's the rebellion against the ports in Dubai. There's the general waffling over surveillance issues.

Overall, it seems clear that members of the Republican party want to distance themselves from the Bush Administration faster than you say, "We didn't know the levees were going to break."   

Apparently, Republicans finally noticed that his latest approval polls have hovered around 34% for a few months now and the NY Times, et al. are busy parsing out the reasons behind this shift.

But we think the reason is obvious:  Cheney shot his buddy in the face and that was one metaphor that no one in the Republican party could miss.
