Celebrity Playlists Rock

We spent a good hour the other day procrastinating surfing through the Celebrity Playlists on iTunes. [We'd provide links, but can't onto iTunes]

Part of our fascination with the playlists stemmed from the disconnect between the stars' personnas and their musical tastes. Sometimes, there was none [Jennifer Garner digs Destiny's Child.] But we also found plenty of surprises. Here's what we mean:

Amy Sedaris
We Expected: We lovelovelove her and secretly believe that we should be best friends. Naturally, we thought we'd lovelovelove her playlist just as much.
We Discovered: A dream destroyed... unless we were best friends in elementary school.
Big Shock: Joni Mitchell, fer chrissakes!
We Both Love Know: Windy, by The Association. It was her favorite song as a kid. I vaugely remember it. 

Russell Crowe
We Expected: Something like '70s classic rock... Hendrix, the Stones, etc.
We Discovered: He's a cupcake! A hunky, tough guy cupcake who'd beat someone silly just for us. Our long-dead crush is so rekindled.   
Big Shock: Closer to Fine, by The Indigo Girls
We Both Love: Wuthering Heights, by Kate Bush; Constant Craving by k.d. lang.

Kyra Sedgwick    
We Expected: To like a lot of the same stuff. 
We Discovered: We do.   
Big Shock: I Am I Said, by Neil Diamond.
We Both Love: Nirvana, Elton John, Bill Withers, Neil Diamond and... White Lines by Grandmaster Flash, an old favorite we'd forgotten about.

Robert Downey, Jr.    
We Expected: Wilco, The Eels, Beck, Tom Waits   
We Discovered: He's into Bryan Adams and Phil Collins, which -- as far as we're concerned -- explains the drug problem.
Big Shock: Finished What Ya Started by Van Halen. Van Halen? Van Halen in 1993??
We Both Love: With or Without You by U2 

Nicole Kidman      
We Expected: She's too willowy and perfect to have good taste in music.
We Discovered: We should be best friends!
Big Shock: Ex-squeeze Lenny Kravitz made her list, but not new hubby Keith Urban.
We Both Love: Fade In You by Mazzy Star; Morcheeba

Anderson Cooper      
We Expected: Gnarls Barkley, Beyonce, Kayne West   
We Discovered: A kindred spirit
Big Shock: Yo La Tengo
We Both Love: Elliott Smith, The Clash and Blur's Coffee and TV

Sharon Stone       
We Expected: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson 
We Discovered: She likes Tom Waits!
Big Shock: Latter-day Tom Waits!! [Mule Variations]
We Both Love: Tom Waits!!!

Ed Burns       
We Expected: Nothing in particular   
We Discovered: That we'd probably have fun talking over a beer.   
Big Shock: He'll admit to liking.. well, you'll see.   
We Both Love: Memory Motel by the Stones; My Kinda Lover by Billy Squire

"Everyone knows it's Windy"...

Brutal song, and/but one that can invade the brain easily. In fact, thinking about this song now ruins the next three or so days for me, as I vainly try to extricate it from my mind.
